Overview
This 4-day program will provide an understanding of the basic regulatory
and compliance requirements applicable to welding and gases distributors
and highlights new and recently changed regulatory requirements.
The course will
cover a broad range of regulatory requirements including:
- OSHA and
Safety Management, with a special focus on setting up and managing
an energy control and Lock Out / Tag Out program
- DOT and
Homeland Security regulations, with a special focus on the new
Homeland Security regulations
- Medical Gas
and FDA compliance, with a preview of the new USP / NF requirements
and updated medical gas monographs that will be
introduced in 2008.
The fourth day
this year will be a professional development session for compliance
professionals and business managers, and will focus on how to develop
an internal compliance audits. The format of all four days is classroom
training with ample time for questions from attendees..
Who
Should Attend
This course is for individuals with safety and compliance responsibilities.
This would include first line supervisors who direct the workforce,
as well as safety and compliance coordinators or other individuals
with DOT, EPA, FDA or OSHA responsibilities. Safety and compliance
managers who have not been to training
recently will also want to attend, to learn about recent changes
in regulations and compliance requirements.

Day
1 – OSHA & Safety Management
April 1 - 8:00 – 5:00
A review of
the OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements applicable to independent
welding and gases distributors, including:
- Hazard Communication
- Emergency
Action Plans
- Forklift
safety
- Personal
Protective equipment
During this
session we will also focus on how to set up and manage a lock out
/ tag out program at an independent distributor, which is one of
the top OSHA citations. There will also Be a Discussion of Changed
Requirements & Enforcement Trends related to safety and OSHA
compliance.
Day
2 – DOT & Homeland Security
April 2 - 8:00 – 5:00
A review of
the regulatory requirements for shipping of gases and new security
requirements for hazardous goods.

Security requirements
Half of this
session will focus on the new homeland security regulations, the
impact on the gases industry, and the steps independent distributors
have to take to achieve compliance.
Day
3 – Conducting Internal Compliance Audits
April 3 - 8:00 – 5:00
An introduction
to setting up and managing a successful internal audit
program, including:
- Audit Strategies
- Record Reviews
& Sampling Techniques
- Conducting
task observations
- Audit scoring
Attendees will
receive materials that will facilitate development of your own
audit tool kit.
Day
4 – Medical Gases
April 4 - 8:00 – 3:30
A review of
the processes involved in the
filling, holding, and distribution of medical gases in compliance
with FDA requirements.
- 21 CFR review
& cGMP update training
- QC Unit
Responsibilities
- Handling
of complaints and adverse event reporting
- Recent enforcement
trends
- There will
be a discussion of the current status of the new USP / NF requirements,
the changing medical gas monographs, and what firms will need
to do to comply.
